I am so glad you're here! I'm Nicole, Founder and Bread Curator at For the Love of Sourdough, a small community-based microbakery I started back in 2020 in the red brick townhomes of Baltimore, Maryland. It was an honor to bake lots and lots of sourdough (gluten free too!) from my home kitchen in the Rodgers Forge historic district during the crazy pandemic we all will remember.
I didn't always make sourdough nor do I hold a Masters in Sourdough bread making. I'm completely self taught coming out of years of baking almost every day in my kitchen and reading and researching every topic on this art. My background is in higher education where I several for over ten years in international graduate admissions and recruitment where I did obtain a Masters from Penn State in Organizational Behavior back in 2019 and traveled all over the country and world building relationships with people. Never would I have ever dreamed of becoming a microbaker/educator but here I am! Funny how life works.
We are now in Mesa, Arizona serving the same organic and decadent sourdough boules and gluten free loaves in my favorite little corner of the Arizona desert, our home. I am a native to this area so the nostalgic vibes are in full swing where I get to continue to share my passion for sourdough with this local community where I grew up. We are an Arizona Department of Health approved cottage food bakery serving anyone in the valley! I am so happy I get to serve you through my art of bread baking.
My bread bakery is my full time passion when I am not running around with my adventurous little foodie boy, Henry Theodore and spending time with my amazing husband Adarsh. I bake loaves on Friday and Saturday mornings for pick up. I am a made to order bakery so every loaf made is crafted just for you. Everything is made fresh the morning you pick up after a nearly 24 hour fermentation. I do feel as my bread is an art or at least an expression of my heart and joy that I know this world needs. When you leave my home with a loaf, I hope you feel the connection of how good food is when it's made fresh, has nourishing ingredients and is baked at home. I also teach for my Sourdough School for Beginners classes offered right here in my home kitchen. It is one of my most favorite things; to teach the skill of baking sourdough at home. It has a lot to teach you!
All of my sourdough boules are made with 100% organic flours, water, Himalayan pink salt and are also vegan, soy, nut and dairy free. Our gluten free sourdough loafs are also dairy free and 100% gluten free and vegan. We also offer some tasty inclusions and seasonal items with an extra sourdough flare. My personal favorite is the Organic Cinnamon Raisin Sourdough Boule infused with a smidge of coconut sugar. It's a breakfast staple in our home.
Created in 2020 from two simple ingredients, water and organic whole wheat flour, Mr. Bubbles is our trusty sourdough starter or levain in sourdough terms. He is a live, wild, natural yeast used in each loaf to enhance flavor and rise. He has survived the cross country drive from Maryland to Arizona and is still the life of the party. His memory lives on back east as he was distributed to more than 30 homes prior to our departure. We also have our beautiful and sweet Hazel who is our gluten free, wild, organic sourdough starter for our GF sourdough boules made with organic brown rice flour.
If you are looking for a delicious and satiating loaf of sourdough to feed your soul, your family, friends or for a special occasion, lets connect! I would love to teach you this great skill for your own home kitchen too.
Thank you so much for stopping by. Let's break bread!
Peace and Love,
Henry, Nicole and Adarsh
