I'm Nicole, Founder and Bread Curator at For the Love of Sourdough, a small community-based microbakery I started back in 2020 in the red brick townhomes of Baltimore, Maryland. It was an honor to bake lots and lots of sourdough (gluten free too!) from my home kitchen in the Rodgers Forge historic district during the crazy pandemic we all will remember.
Never did I ever think that one day I would have the chance to run and operate a thriving full-time microbakery from my home kitchen. It is a literal dream thanks to the wonderful community that has supported us since we opened on May 31st, 2021. I can still remember the day, after watching my cousin craft beautiful rye sourdough on Instagram on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I remember this rack of loaves he had made and I wanted to do exactly what he was doing. Maybe my ancestors were tugging at me a bit too because sourdough bread making was a very normal practice before 1925. I had just graduated with my Masters from Penn State University the year prior and had every intention of continuing my corporate career in higher education leadership. But then COVID hit and I became a Mother and everything changed in my life. And soon, sourdough found its way into my kitchen and has never left since then. Call it divine redirection or serendipity. I am so grateful to be here serving you.
We are now in Mesa, Arizona serving the same organic and nutritious sourdough boules and gluten free loaves in my favorite little corner of the Arizona desert, our home. We reside inside the Arizona Golf Resort in a neighborhood that is literally a blast from the past! I am a native to this area so the nostalgic vibes are in full swing where I get to continue to share my passion for sourdough baking and teaching with this local community where I grew up. We are an Arizona Department of Health approved cottage food bakery serving anyone in the valley and the beautiful state of Arizona! I am overjoyed that I get to serve you through my art of sourdough bread baking. I appreciate you being here and reading our story.
My husband, Adarsh, and precious little guy, Henry, are also a very huge part of this story and you can be sure to find them greeting customers and helping with daily operations. Brianna recently joined our family team as our Microbakery Apprentice and Assistance and has been such a wonderful addition to our microbakery business. We love you Brie!
All of my country sourdough boules are made with 100% organic flours, water, Himalayan pink salt and are also vegan, soy, nut and dairy free. Our gluten free sourdough loafs are also dairy free and 100% gluten free and vegan. We also offer some tasty inclusions and seasonal sweet treats with an extra sourdough flare.
Created in 2020 from two simple ingredients, water and organic whole wheat flour, Mr. Bubbles is our trusty wild harvested sourdough starter. He is a live, wild, natural yeast used in each loaf to enhance flavor and rise. He has survived the cross country drive from Maryland to Arizona and is still the life of the party. His memory lives on back east but has settled into his roots here in Arizona. We also have our beautiful Sweet Hazel who is our gluten free, wild, organic sourdough starter for our gluten-free sourdough boules fed with organic brown rice flour.
